Can men take spironolactone for acne?

No. Spironolactone is not prescribed for acne in male patients. Due to its systemic androgen-blocking mechanism, it causes severe side effects in men, including gynecomastia (breast tissue development), erectile dysfunction, loss of libido, and muscle weakness.

Is spironolactone safe in pregnancy or while trying to conceive?

No. Spironolactone is strictly contraindicated during pregnancy because it can disrupt the normal reproductive development of a male fetus, leading to feminization. Women of childbearing age must use reliable contraception while taking it. If you plan to try to conceive, you must stop taking spironolactone at least one week prior to discontinuing birth control.
